What is Family Therapy

Family Therapy is a systems-based interactionally-focused treatment modality. It is the system, not the individual, that must be the target of intervention for the family therapist, acknowledging thereby the importance of context and interconnectedness of behaviour. Family therapy is relevant to the Indian context where the task of finding autonomy within connectedness is a persistent challenge.

IAFT History

The Indian Association for Family Therapy was founded at the initiative of Dr. Bindu Prasad, clinical psychologist, and other interested professionals in May 1991. Registered in 1994, the IAFT has served as a forum for professionals from the fields of Child Development, Counselling, Medical Sciences, Nursing, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Special Education, and Education. Membership of IAFT spans a number of cities including Ahmedabad, Baroda, Bangalore, Behrampur, Delhi, Jamshedpur, and Mumbai. The head-office is in New Delhi.
